NABARD Grade A Prelims 2021: Shift 1 and Shift 2 Exam Analysis

The NABARD Grade A Preliminary examination was held on September 18, 2021. It was conducted in 2 shifts. In this article, we will make a thorough analysis of the exam to review the kind of questions asked and to judge the standard of assessment.

NABARD Grade A 2021 Exam Analysis

We will look at each section of the paper separately. Moreover, we will also try to compare the kind of questions asked in both shifts, as and when required and plausible.

The overall level of the examination was easy-moderate.

Quantitative Aptitude

Topic Shift 2 Shift 1
Number Series 2-3 (Wrong number) 5
Approximation 3-4 3
Data Interpretation 5 (Graph) 5
Arithmetic (P & L-2, T & W, STD,Probability, CI) Same

From Number Series, the wrong number given for the series was to be selected. As you can see from the table above, most of the topics assessed in both the sections were more or less the same.

The level of assessment was easy-moderate.

Reasoning

Topic
Shift 2 Shift 1
Puzzles 4 4
Seating Arrangement 4 (Linear arrangement) + 1 Single 8
Syllogism 2 3 (Syllogism and Inequalities)
Coding-Decoding 5(New format) 2-3
Blood Relation/Direction 2 + 1
Word formation 1
Statement Assumption 1

The questions were not so difficult per se. If you did not spend so much time on Puzzles and Seating Arrangement questions, you could attempt the other questions easily. 4 questions were asked from Linear Seating Arrangement. More questions were asked from Coding-Decoding in Shift 2 than in Shift 1. The Coding-Decoding questions were based on the new pattern.

In Shift 1, 3 questions were asked from Syllogisms and Inequalities each. In Shift 2 only 2 questions on Syllogism were asked.

If we look at both Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning, the questions were easy-to-moderate. The more challenging aspect of these sections was to manage the time.

English Language

Topic
Shift 2 Shift 1
Reading Comprehension 10 10
Words Swap 5 5
Fill in the blanks 5
Para jumble 5
Sentence Rearrangement 5 4
Misc. 5 Error (5)

10 questions from Reading Comprehension are assessed every year. Other than that, there were 5 questions each from Word Swap in both shifts. The English section in both shifts was quite similar.

Marks obtained in the QRE section will only be qualifying in nature.

Decision Making

The new section on Decision Making was based entirely on concept-based theoretical questions. They were related to theories, processes and types of decision making. There were no situational questions asked.

Due to this, the level of assessment for Decision Making was tough

Agriculture and Rural Development

 Shift 2
Shift 1
Horticulture Horticulture-2
Cropping System Cropping System- 3/4
Economic Survey Irrigation-1
Soil Science Erosion-1
Animal Husbandry Animal Husbandry & fisheries- 6-7
Current Related Current Related-6-7
 – Soil nutrients-1

There were more questions on Animal Husbandry and Fisheries this year. Moreover, there were more questions on the same in Shift 1 than in Shift 2. As expected, there were questions from the topic of the Cropping System as well.

Some questions asked were:

  1. What is the study of vegetables called?
  2. Har Khet Ko Paani” is the tagline for which government scheme?
  3. Which scheme has not been subsumed in the PM Krishi Sinchayi Yojana?
  4. What is mixed cropping?
  5. What is the study of fruits called?

In a sense, the questions assessed were as expected for this year.

Economic and Social Issues and General Awareness

The questions from ESI were easy-moderate. Particularly if we compare it with the NABARD Grade B 2021 exam, the questions were quite simple.

 Topic Shift 2 Shift 1
Current Affairs E-RUPI Current Affairs Max question
RBI & Bank reports Nep head, md & ceo recommended by
Schemes ENAM, target, SUJALAM Campaign, PMGKY, DDY GKY, NRLM, MNREGA,
RBI & Bank reports   Budget Fiscal deficit, share of animal husbandry
Schemes Stand Up India, PM Vaya vandana YojanaJan Arogya Yojana Books & Authors 1
GDP Related Share of animal husbandry

As we can gauge from the table above, the focus of the paper was on government schemes. A large number of questions on government schemes were asked in both ESI and General Awareness sections.
