As per that, the WBCS Prelims 2021 will be conducted across the state on May 31, 2021. Along with the WBCS 2021 Prelims exam date, the Commission also released the WBCS Main exam dates. Exam Dates:

Earlier, WBCS 2021 exams were postponed because of the state assembly elections in the state. The WBPSC postponed the exam on March 1. The proposed date for the WBCS Prelims exam 2021 was March 21 and for the WBCS 2021 main exam was scheduled from April 24 to 28. The WBCS exam 2021 was postponed till May 15 and the new exam dates will be released later. WBCS 2021 notification was released on December 20. The WPSC WBCS 2021 Applications commenced on December 24. The candidates can apply online for the WBCS exam 2021 till January 15. The last date to submit the application fee is January 15 and the form can be submitted till January 16. The WBCS 2021 exam date is not released yet and it will be released later. The WBCS 2021 vacancies were not notified with the WBCS advertisement. The WBPSC will notify the number of vacancies later.

WBCS 2021 exam advertisement was released online and there are four groups of services combined to form the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS). The details of Group A, B, C, and D services were mentioned in the WBCS 2021 notification. WBCS Exam 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The WBCS 2021 eligibility criteria are given in the official notification of WBCS 2021. The WBCS eligibility conditions are given below:

Educational Qualification: A degree from a recognised university and ability to read and write Bengali but it is not required for the candidates having Nepali as a mother tongue.

Age Limit for WBCS Exam 2021

The lower age limit is 21 years and the upper age limit is 36 years. The age will be counted from January 1 of the exam year. The candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1985 and not later than January 1, 2000 will be eligible to apply.

Those candidates whose date of birth lies between January 1, 2000  and January 1, 2001 [i.e. whose age is between 20 and 21 years as on 01.01.2021] may apply for Group B posts only. The Commission will accept the date of birth as mentioned in the Madhyamik Certificate only. Madhyamik Certificate means High School Certificate. 

Age relaxation in WBCS Exam 2021

There is no age relaxation for the candidate serving in the Government. The above age limit applies to all the candidates except the following:

SC and ST 5 years

In the case of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit is relaxable up to 45 years. S.C./S.T./B.C. candidates of other States shall be treated as General category candidates.

Physical Standard Required for WBCS Exam 2021

For West Bengal Police Service (Group ‘B’ Service) -The minimum height requirement is 1.65 metres for male candidates and 1.50 metres for female candidates subject to relaxation in the case of candidates belonging to races such as Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese Tribes etc. Candidates intending to be considered for this group must indicate their height in the appropriate column of the application form.

WBCS Exam 2021 Selection Process

WBCS is a two-stage exam process. As mentioned in the official notification, the Prelims and Main exam are the parts of the written stage. The other stage is the interview stage.

Stage 1: The WBCS Preliminary exam will be conducted in March/April 2021. The actual WBCS 2021 prelims exam date was not released with the official notification. Before the exam, WBCS admit cards will be issued to the candidates. The WBCS preliminary is an objective type test consisting of one paper only. The paper will carry 200 marks. The candidates passed in the WBCS preliminary exam will be eligible to appear in WBCS main exam. The  Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a  Screening Test only for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination.

Stage 2: WBCS Main exam consists of six compulsory papers and one optional subject having two papers (only for the candidates appearing for Group A or Group B services).

The six compulsory papers will be objective-type papers and the two optional subject papers will be conventional-type. There shall be negative marking in the objective type papers of Prelims as well as Mains exam.

Important Note:  The deduction of 10% of full marks will be done if the candidate tries to disclose his/her identity by writing the name or roll number on the answer script of any paper.

Stage 3: The personal interview will follow the written exam. The marks of the personal interview are given below:

Final Result will be announced after all the stages of the WBCS exam are over. After the final result, the candidates need to appear for the document and certificate verification.

WBCS syllabus was notified in the WBCS 2021 notification on December 20, 2020. The WBCS 2021 syllabus is the most important component of the WBCS preparation. The WBCS syllabus is very categorized in terms of marks and hence the candidates can expect a definite number of questions from a section of the syllabus. This makes the exam easy because the number of questions is fixed from every section and it makes it different from the IAS exam where the number of questions is unexpected.

The WBCS prelims and mains exams are conducted based on the WBCS syllabus given in the official notification. The WBCS prelims exam will be conducted in March/April and the WBCS answer key will be released within two days of the WBCS prelims exam 2021.

WBCS Syllabus Prelims Exam 2021

The WBCS prelims syllabus is an abridged version of the mains syllabus. The WBCS prelims exam has only one objective type question paper. The WBCS notification defines the WBCS syllabus for the prelims exam. The time allotted for the WBCS prelims exam is two-and-a-half hours. The WBCS prelims syllabus is given below.

The WBCS prelims exam is a screening exam and the marks scored in the prelims exam is not considered for the final result.

WBCS Syllabus Main Exam 2021

The WBCS main exam is the critical phase of the WBCS exam. The marks scored in the main exam are counted for the WBCS main exam. There are six compulsory objective type question papers and two question papers of the optional subject chosen from the given list. The syllabus for each optional subject is given in the official WBCS notification.

Each compulsory paper carries 200 marks. The time allotted for each paper is three hours. The standard of other compulsory papers will be of the level of learning expected from a graduate of any faculty of a recognized University. The WBCS syllabus for the main exam is as follows.

Paper I: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali  

  • Letter writing (within 150 words) / Drafting of Report (within 200 words),
  • Précis Writing
  • Composition and Translation from English to Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali

Paper-II: English

Paper III: General Studies-I

Paper V: The Constitution of India and Indian Economy including role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India.

The two papers of the optional subjects will be of conventional type and the standard of the examination will be approximately that of an Honours Degree Examination as prescribed by the recognized Indian Universities except for Law, Medical Science and Engineering subjects which will be specified for the LLB, MBBS and BE or equivalent courses respectively recognized by Indian Universities / Institutions.
