Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021: The Father of Indian Cinema ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ was born in Mumbai on 30 April 1870. He made the first Indian feature film Raja Harishchandra in the year 1913. In his memory, the Government of India introduced the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969.
The prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021 were announced, to honor the best in Indian cinema, television, music, and OTT. Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was posthumously awarded ‘Critics Best Actor’ for his performance in Dil Bechara. About the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards:
- The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema.

- The recipient is honored for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry.
- As of 2017, the award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000 (US$14,000).
- The first recipient of the award was actress Devika Rani, who was honored at the 17th National Film Awards.
- Presented first in 1969, the award was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema.
